指亲眼看到某件事发生的人，尤其是犯罪或事故，因此能够描述经过。也可以指在法庭上提供证词、证明某事的人。

常用于法律或新闻语境。'Witnesses' 可以指现场看到事件的人（'Several witnesses saw the crash'），也可以指在法庭上作证的人（'The witnesses were called to testify'）。不要和动词 'witness'（目睹、见证）混淆。

The police talked to two witnesses after the accident.
