Verificar se algo é verdadeiro, correto ou aceito oficialmente. Também pode significar tornar algo válido legal ou oficialmente.

Comum em ambientes formais, técnicos e jurídicos ('validar dados', 'validar sentimentos', 'validar um bilhete'). Diferente de 'verificar', pois além de checar, implica aceitação ou aprovação oficial.
