ちょうど自分の足の下にあること。立ったり歩いたりしている場所の下の地面や床。

物理的に足の下にある物（「足元に泥がある」「足元で雪がきしむ」など）を表す時によく使います。比喩的に邪魔な存在やしつこくついてくる人にも使われることがあります。
