表面には見えない感情や考え、力が内側で存在していることを表します。水面下で流れる隠れた水流も指します。
Usage Notes (Japanese)
「an undercurrent of anger」のように隠れた感情や雰囲きを表す比喩的な使い方が多いです。本来は川や海の水面下に流れる危険な流れも意味します。
