'Truncheon' शब्द मुख्य रूप से ब्रिटिश अंग्रेजी में प्रयोग होता है; अमेरिकी अंग्रेजी में 'nightstick' या 'baton' ज्यादा चलता है। यह शब्द पुलिस या दंगा नियंत्रण के संदर्भ में ही आता है, सामान्य डंडों के लिए नहीं।
