地面近くに隠して張られたワイヤーで、触れたり踏んだりするとアラームや罠、爆発を作動させます。比喩的に、不意な反応を引き起こす原因も指します。

軍事や防犯で使われるほか、比喩的にも使う（例：'emotional tripwires'）。ほとんど複数形で使われる。'trigger'や'landmine'とは異なる意味なので注意。
