다른 사람보다 느리게 움직이거나 발전해서 뒤에 있게 되는 것. 실제 걸을 때나 무언가를 늦게 이룰 때 모두 사용한다.

일상적으로 신체적, 비유적으로 모두 사용된다. 'trail behind someone'은 그 사람보다 느린 것을 뜻하며 'fall behind'보다는 덜 강한 느낌.
