「tongues」是「tongue」的複數，可以指嘴巴裡的舌頭，也可以指人們所講的語言。

正式時可指多條舌頭，文學中較常見。但更常用來指不同的「語言」，“speak in tongues”指在宗教中說出他人聽不懂的語言。日常生活中很少用來指多條舌頭。
