システムや組織、構造の中にある、異なるレベルや層のことです。会員制度などで、各階層ごとに異なる特典がある場合に使われます。

主にフォーマルや技術的な場面で使われます。「top tier」や「membership tiers」など限定的な文脈が多いです。階段の段差には使いません。
