'Throw off' es informal; puede usarse para hablar de eliminar algo (como una enfermedad), o para confundir a alguien. También para emitir sensaciones o cosas (ej: 'throw off heat'). 'Throw someone off' = 'confundir/despistar'. Cuidado: no es lo mismo que 'throw away' (tirar a la basura).
