群衆

Definition

大勢の人がぎゅうぎゅうに集まっている様子や人々の集まり。イベントや混雑した場所でよく使われます。

主に人について使います。日常会話では「群衆」より「人混み」や「人だかり」が使われますが、文章などでは「群衆」が適切です。物や動物にはほとんど使いません。

A throng of students waited outside the theater.

劇場の外で学生たちの**群衆**が待っていた。

The tourists faced a throng at the famous monument.

観光客たちは有名な記念碑の前で**群衆**にぶつかった。

Police tried to control the throng during the parade.

パレードの間、警察は**群衆**を制御しようとした。
