찢어지고 해어진 작은 천이나 종이 조각. 비유적으로 무언가가 망가지거나 엉망이 된 상태에도 사용된다.

대개 복수형으로 사용('in tatters')하며, 비유적으로도 자주 씀('계획이 망가졌다' 등). '타투'와 헷갈리지 않도록 주의.
