타르라는 끈적거리고 검은 물질로 덮여 있거나 칠해진 상태. 도로포장이나 방수 작업에 주로 사용됨.

'타르가 발라진 도로' 등 건설·도로 분야에서 주로 사용된다. 관용적으로 ('tarred with the same brush') 다른 사람을 함께 부정적으로 판단할 때도 쓰일 수 있다.
