다른 사람을 도와주거나 응원하는 것. 영화나 드라마에서는 주인공은 아니지만 중요한 역할을 의미하기도 함.

'supporting'은 주로 'supporting actor', 'supporting evidence' 등에서 보조적이나 중요한 역할을 표현할 때 사용됨. 항상 주된 것이 아니라 뒤에서 돕는 의미.
