Definition

যে সব ধারনা বা আচরণ যথাযথ প্রমাণ ছাড়াই অলৌকিক বা অজানা কারণে বিশ্বাস করা হয়, যেমন আয়না ভাঙলে দুর্ভাগ্য হবে এমন বিশ্বাস।

Usage Notes (Bengali)

সবচেয়ে বেশি বহুবচনে ('superstitions') ব্যবহৃত হয়। সাধারণত 'believe in', 'have', বা 'follow' মতো ক্রিয়ার সাথে চলে। সাংস্কৃতিক ঐতিহ্যের সঙ্গে জড়িত; ধর্মীয় বিশ্বাস থেকে আলাদা। আনুষ্ঠানিক নয়।

Many people have superstitions about black cats.

অনেক লোকের কাছে কালো বিড়াল নিয়ে **অন্ধবিশ্বাস** রয়েছে।

My grandmother believes in old superstitions.

আমার দাদি পুরনো **অন্ধবিশ্বাস** বিশ্বাস করেন।

Some superstitions say it is bad luck to walk under a ladder.

কিছু **কুসংস্কার** অনুযায়ী মইয়ের নিচ দিয়ে হাঁটা দুর্ভাগ্য ডেকে আনে।

He doesn’t really believe those superstitions, but he still avoids breaking mirrors.
