आमतौर पर तब प्रयोग होता है जब किसी चीज़ की गहराई या असली समझ नहीं हो ('superficially similar', 'looked at superficially')। यह औपचारिक या अर्द्ध-औपचारिक है; अनौपचारिक बातचीत में कम मिलता है। 'Briefly' (संक्षिप्त रूप से) से अलग है।
