非常に暗く、不気味でおどろおどろしい雰囲気を表す言葉。ギリシャ神話のステュクス川のような深い闇に例えられる。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

文学的・詩的な表現で、日常会話ではあまり使われません。「stygian darkness」「stygian night」など、通常以上の深い暗闇に使います。
