Definition

髪の毛や糸、ロープなどの細い部分や束のこと。また、何かがより合わさってできている一つ一つの部分を指すこともある。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

主に髪の毛、糸、繊維など細いものに使います。'strands of hair', 'strands of pearls'などとよく言います。太いものや固体には使いません。比喩的にも使われます。
