"stop at" in Japanese

～に止まる～で止まる

Definition

特定の場所や地点で動作をやめたり、一時止まること。乗り物にもよく使われます。

場所やポイントに着いたら止まる意味で使い、物理的な「立ち寄る」に該当。'stop by'の「ちょっと寄る」とは異なる。'stop to'は「～するために止まる」なので区別して使う。

Please stop at the next gas station.

次のガソリンスタンドで**止まって**ください。

The bus will stop at the corner.

バスは角で**止まります**。

We should stop at the store to buy bread.

パンを買うためにお店で**止まろう**。

He never stops at anything to get what he wants.
