Un 'artista hambriento' es un artista que lucha por ganar suficiente dinero para vivir, generalmente porque es difícil vender su trabajo. Se usa para pintores, escritores, músicos y otros creativos con dificultades económicas.

Siempre informal, usado en tono humorístico o hablando de dificultades en profesiones creativas. No significa literalmente morir de hambre, sino tener problemas de dinero. Se usa con mayor frecuencia como 'Él es un artista hambriento.' No se aplica a profesiones no artísticas.
