यह शब्द मुख्यतः लकड़ी के छोटे-छोटे टुकड़ों के लिए है, पर काँच या धातु के लिए भी इस्तेमाल होता है। आमतौर पर 'splinters आ जाना' बोला जाता है। हमेशा छोटे और नुकीले टुकड़े होते हैं।
