कुछ चीज़ को दबाकर या फैलाकर समतल, चिकना या बिना उभार के बना देना। अक्सर सतहों, वस्तुओं या किसी चीज़ को आसान बनाने के लिए प्रयोग होता है।

"Smoothed" 'smooth' का भूतकाल और past participle है। आम वाक्यांश: 'smoothed the surface' (सतह को चिकना किया), 'smoothed out the wrinkles' (सिलवटें दूर कीं)। इसका उपयोग शारीरिक क्रिया और किसी प्रक्रिया को सरल बनाने दोनों में होता है। द्रव या बहुत लचीले पदार्थों पर प्रायः उपयोग नहीं होता।
