Definition

短時間、他人の子供やペット、家の世話をする人のこと。主にベビーシッターやペットシッターに使われます。

「babysitters」「pet sitters」「house sitters」という形でよく使われます。専門の介護士や看護師にはほとんど使いません。複数人の場合は必ず複数形です。

The sitters arrived at 7 p.m. to watch the kids.

子供たちを見守るために**シッターたち**は午後7時に到着しました。
