आम तौर पर बाल, कपड़ा या खाना सतह से हल्का जल जाने के लिए उपयोग होता है। आम प्रयोग: 'singe your hair', 'singe the edges'। यह 'burn' से अलग है, जिसमें पूरी तरह जलना शामिल हो सकता है। औपचारिकता: सामान्य से थोड़ा साहित्यिक।
