牧羊犬は、羊をまとめたり守ったりするために訓練された、またはそのような性質を持つ犬です。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

「牧羊犬」はボーダー・コリーやオールド・イングリッシュ・シープドッグなどの品種を指すことが多いです。主に農場で使われますが、ペットやショーでも見かけます。「番犬」とは意味が異なります。
