ऐसे देश जहाँ राज्य का प्रमुख चुना जाता है, न कि राजा या रानी होता है। आमतौर पर इनमें जनता द्वारा चुनी गई सरकार होती है।

'Republics' 'republic' का बहुवचन है और आमतौर पर राजनीतिक, शैक्षिक या ऐतिहासिक संदर्भों में उपयोग होता है। इसे 'democracy' से न मिलाएँ, दोनों में अंतर है।
