Yazılı metni veya bilgiyi belirli bir kitap, kaynak ya da cihazdan okuyup anlamak. Genellikle bilginin kaynağını belirtmek için kullanılır.

Talimatlarda veya anlatımlarda sıkça geçer: 'read from the book', 'read from the screen'. Genel okumada sadece 'okumak' denir.
