Definition

জীব বা জৈব বস্তু যখন ব্যাকটেরিয়া দ্বারা ভেঙে গিয়ে দুর্গন্ধ সৃষ্টি করে, সেই পচন বা পচা প্রক্রিয়া বোঝায়। সাধারণত মৃত দেহ বা প্রাণীর ক্ষেত্রে ব্যবহৃত হয়।

‘পচন’ বা ‘পচা’ শব্দটি প্রধানত বৈজ্ঞানিক প্রসঙ্গে, যেমন জীববিজ্ঞান বা চিকিৎসার ক্ষেত্রে, মৃতদেহ বা খাদ্যের জন্য ব্যবহৃত হয়। দৈনন্দিন দুর্গন্ধ বোঝাতে ব্যাবহার করবেন না; সেখানে 'গন্ধ' বা 'পচা' বলা হয়।
