宗教的な詩や歌で、特に聖書の『詩篇』の中にあるもの。礼拝や祈りのときによく使われる。

『詩篇』と大文字で書かれる場合は聖書の書名を指します。宗教的や文学的な場面でよく使われます。「sing psalms」や「the Book of Psalms」のような表現で登場します。
