Usado sobretudo para ganhar dinheiro, especialmente em negócios. Pode soar negativo quando referido a alguém 'profiting from' uma situação má. Usa-se frequentemente no gerúndio ('profiting from', 'profiting by'). Não é o mesmo que 'benefiting', que é mais neutro.
