একটি বইয়ের শুরুতে লেখক সাধারণত তার উদ্দেশ্য, পটভূমি, বা কীভাবে বইটি রচিত হয়েছে তা ব্যাখ্যা করেন – সেটিই ভূমিকা বা প্রাককথন।

Usage Notes (Bengali)

'ভূমিকা' বা 'প্রাককথন' সাধারণত বই কিংবা গবেষণামূলক লেখায় ব্যবহৃত হয় এবং এটি মূল লেখক দ্বারা লেখা হয়। 'foreword' আলাদা, এটি সাধারণত অন্য কেউ লেখে। 'introduction' বইয়ের বিষয়বস্তুর ব্যাখ্যা দেয়, লেখকের উদ্দেশ্য নয়।
