কোনো বিশেষ কিছু, যেমন রাসায়নিক, বর্জ্য বা শব্দ যুক্ত করে বাতাস, পানি বা ভূমিকে নোংরা বা ক্ষতিকর করে তোলা।

সাধারণত প্যাসিভ ভাবে ('polluted with oil') ব্যবহৃত হয়। যেমন 'কেমিক্যাল দিয়ে দূষিত', 'শব্দ দূষিত', বা 'আবর্জনা দিয়ে দূষিত' বাক্যে ব্যবহার হয়।
