'দোষারোপ করা' সচরাচর দায়িত্ব বা দোষ দেওয়ার ক্ষেত্রে ব্যবহার হয়; শুধু 'point at' অর্থাৎ 'ইঙ্গিত' নয়। 'point the finger at someone', 'stop pointing the finger at', এই গঠনগুলো গুরুত্ববহ। আনুষ্ঠানিক ও অনানুষ্ঠানিক উভয় ক্ষেত্রেই ব্যবহৃত হয়।
