軍隊中屬於連的下級單位，通常由中尉帶領的小分隊。有時也指軍事以外的有組織小組。

多用於軍事，指排級單位。“platoons”為複數，單數為“platoon”。不適用於比排小（如“squad”）或大的（如“battalion”）單位。偶爾用於比喻有組織的小組。
