Definition
Un pit es un hoyo o lugar profundo en la tierra o en otra superficie. También puede ser la semilla dura dentro de algunas frutas, o una parte baja y hundida.

Con más frecuencia significa un hoyo: 'a pit in the road' o 'a fire pit'. Para frutas, en inglés americano se usa mucho 'pit'; en inglés británico a menudo prefieren 'stone' con frutas como peach o cherry. También aparece en usos fijos como 'armpit' y 'the pits' (informal: muy malo).
