幻想とは、本当に存在するように見えて実体のないもの。幻影や幽霊、想像の産物などを指します。

非常に文語的で日常会話ではほとんど使いません。「phantom」や「fantasy」と近いですが、より幽霊的・非現実的なニュアンスがあります。ホラーや哲学的文脈でよく使われます。

He thought he saw a phantasm in the dark room.
