車のギアの一つで、エンジンの力を抑えつつスピードを上げるもの。または、全力で頑張る様子を表します。

実際の自動車の用語と、比喩的に「全力」「フル稼働」の意味で使われます。会話で "in overdrive" は猛烈に働いているときに使います。
