城市或城镇边缘的地区，通常比市中心发展程度低或建筑物较少。

“郊区” 通常指城市边缘的大片区域，不特指一点。常见搭配有“市郊”、“住在郊区”。比“市中心”位置偏远，也比“suburbs（住宅区）”更中性。
