逃げた人や動物が自由にしている状態を指し、特に危険だったり本来は閉じ込められているべき場合に使います。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

ニュースや注意喚起で使われ、「危険な存在が逃走中」など緊張感があるときに使います。普段の“自由”には使いません。
