"off the subject" in Japanese

話が逸れる本題から外れる

Definition

話が今の中心となっているテーマから外れている状態を指します。つまり、本来話すべき内容とは関係のないことです。

カジュアルな場面でよく使われ、本題に話を戻す時や、話がずれていることを指摘したい時に便利です。'off topic'も同じ意味で使われます。

Try not to go off the subject during your presentation.
