ある出来事や状態が特定の場所や状況で起きること。または、考えやアイデアがふと頭に浮かぶこともある。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

「occur」は「happen」よりもフォーマルで、文章やニュース、学術的な文脈でよく使われます。「occur in nature」や「It occurred to me...」のような表現で使われます。『what was occurred』とは言わず、『what occurred』または『what happened』が自然です。

事故は学校の近くで**起こりました**。

These birds only occur in this part of the country.

It suddenly occurred to me that I forgot my keys.
