軍隊で、士官に任官されていないが、一定の指導的地位にある人を指します。主に軍曹や伍長などが該当します。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

単独で使うことは少なく、通常は「下士官」（noncommissioned officer）の形で使います。「NCO」と略されることもあります。士官（commissioned officer）とは区別されます。
