它是“need not”的缩略形式，用来表示某件事没有必要做或不是必须的。

这个形式在英式英语中更常见，在日常美式英语里通常更常用 'don't need to'。后面接动词原形，如 'You needn't worry'。'needn't have + 过去分词' 表示事情已经做了，但其实没必要做。
