Definition

音を小さくしたり聞こえにくくしたりすること。物を覆って暖かくする場合にも使う。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

多くは音を弱めるときに使い、『muffle a sound/voice/cry』のような表現が一般的。『muffle yourself in a coat』は暖かく包む意味になる。「muddle」と混同しないよう注意。
