Uma área de terra muito elevada, frequentemente com encostas íngremes, que se eleva acima da terra à volta; uma montanha.

Geralmente refere-se a um pico isolado ou região elevada, não a uma pequena colina. Usado de forma literal e figurada, por exemplo, 'uma montanha de trabalho'. 'As montanhas' pode indicar uma região inteira.
