目的もなく、適当に何かをいじったり、変更したりすること。問題を引き起こすこともある。

主にイギリス英語の口語的な表現。物や他人のことに不用意に触れる時によく使う。「mess around」（ふざける、時間を無駄にする）とは異なる。マイナスな意味合いになる場合あり。
