소리를 더 크게 만들어 여러 사람이 들을 수 있게 하는 장치로, 음악을 틀거나 안내 방송 등에 주로 사용됩니다.

공공장소에서 여러 대의 기기를 말할 때 복수형으로 사용됩니다. 일상적으로는 '스피커'라고 부르기도 합니다. '설치하다', '연결하다', '확성기로'와 같이 자주 쓰며, 헤드폰이나 이어폰과는 구별됩니다.
