Definition

곤란이나 두려움 때문에 매우 빠르게 자리를 뜨거나 도망치는 것.

주로 미국 영어에서 쓰이는 비격식적 표현이며, 'light out for ~(장소)' 형태로도 자주 나온다. 'lights out'(취침 시간)과 혼동하지 말 것. 최근에는 대화에서 잘 안 쓰임.

As soon as they saw the police, they light out in different directions.
