অনুষ্ঠানিক ও প্রাতিষ্ঠানিক প্রসঙ্গে ব্যবহার হয়। 'lessening of pain', 'lessening of risk' ইত্যাদির মতো বাক্যে সাধারণ। পরিবর্তনের একটি ধাপ বা ফলাফল বোঝাতে ব্যবহৃত হয়, একক কর্ম নয়।
