무언가를 미래를 위해 저장하거나, 아프거나 다쳐서 평소 활동을 못 하게 되거나, 농구에서 골 가까이에서 슛하는 동작을 의미한다.

'lay up provisions'는 식량을 비축한다는 의미. 'was laid up in bed'는 병으로 누워 있었다는 뜻. 농구에서는 운동 용어.
